Material and placement guide

Choose the Right Parking Permit Material

Choose by placement first: hanging from a mirror, displayed against the inside of glass, or adhered to a smooth exterior surface. Then compare removal, reuse and visibility needs before selecting the exact product.

Placement or needMaterial / formatWhat to knowStart here
Move between vehicles Poly-plastic hang tags No adhesive. The permit hangs from the rearview mirror and can be removed before driving. Custom hang tags or stock hang tags
Permanent display against the inside of glass Inside-glass face adhesive The printed face mounts toward the glass so the permit can be read from outside the vehicle. Windshield permits
Removable display against smooth glass Static cling No adhesive. Static cling can be removed and reapplied on a clean, flat, smooth inside-glass surface. Compare cling and face adhesive
Standard exterior identification Exterior back adhesive — white vinyl Applies to a suitable smooth exterior surface. Choose this for everyday non-reflective identification. White-vinyl parking decals
Exterior identification with added low-light visibility Exterior back adhesive — reflective Applies to a suitable smooth exterior surface and returns more light in dim conditions. Reflective parking permits

Four common parking-permit formats

What Changes from One Material to Another?

Poly-Plastic Hang Tags

NeedDecals custom and stock parking hang tags use a rigid hanging format rather than adhesive. Current priority products identify heavy-duty .035-inch material; confirm the exact thickness and finishing on the selected product.

Face-Adhesive Windshield Permits

Face adhesive is selected when the printed face needs to sit against the inside of the windshield and remain readable from outside. Clean glass and follow the exact product instructions before application.

Static Cling

Static cling uses no adhesive. It is intended for a clean, flat, smooth glass surface and can be removed and repositioned. It is not interchangeable with an exterior back-adhesive decal.

Back-Adhesive Exterior Vinyl

Exterior decals place the adhesive on the back. White vinyl and reflective material serve different visibility needs, but both require a suitable smooth exterior surface.

Avoid the most common mismatch

Inside-Glass and Exterior Decals Are Not the Same

Use the adhesive direction that matches the placement. A face-adhesive permit is viewed through glass; a back-adhesive decal mounts directly to an exterior surface. If a permit must move between vehicles, start with a hang tag or removable static cling rather than assuming an adhesive product will be reusable.

Before placing the order

Material Questions to Answer

Will the permit stay with one vehicle or move between vehicles?

Choose a hang tag when physical transfer is part of the plan. Choose an adhesive or cling product when the permit belongs on a specific surface.

Must the permit be read through vehicle glass?

Use the windshield family and compare face adhesive with static cling. Exterior back-adhesive products are a different placement.

Is low-light reflectivity actually required?

Reflective material is available for exterior identification. If added low-light visibility is not needed, compare the standard white-vinyl option.

What determines actual service life?

Material, adhesive, surface preparation, curvature, exposure and handling all matter. Use the selected product’s current description as the final authority rather than applying a general lifetime promise to every product.
